Rayo Vallecano have become one of the toughest
away trips for any side in recent years, but for Real Madrid – the local rivalry aspect of the fixture only ramped up the pressure. The line-up was stronger with only Brahim Díaz coming into the eleven. Fede Valverde captained the team from right-back.
Despite the difficult nature of the fixture, Los Blancos have the home side a lot of respect in the first half – almost neutralising their own efforts. Vinícius Júnior and Raúl Asencio had the only chances of the half, with both missing their efforts. 0-0 at the break.
The second half was just as tame, but it was Rayo who would look the more dangerous. Castilla graduate Jorge De Frutos squandered a decent chance, before another shot came in just over the bar. Real Madrid didn’t muster up anything in attack, and barely controlled the game from the middle. Full time: 0-0, and very little to discuss. Two more point dropped.
