Number eight ranked TCU Women’s Basketball moved to 6-0 with a win this past Sunday over UT Rio Grande Valley by a score of 93-57. TCU had four players score in double digits in an excellent offensive performance. TCU has continued to dominate in their non-conference schedule, winning all six of their games by double digits and five of six games by at least 30 points. After a tough three point shooting performance in their last game against Tarleton State, the Frogs bounced back and knocked down
45% of their shots from deep against the Vaqueros. TCU also controlled the game in the rebounding department, grabbing 51 boards compared to just 31 by UTRGV. The Frogs did a great job limiting extra possessions for the Vaqueros, totaling just ten turnovers as a team and letting up just nine offensive rebounds by UTRGV. TCU played very well on the defensive end of the floor, holding the Vaqueros to 31% shooting from the field and 26% shooting from three. The combination of high effort perimeter defenders and a pair of very effective rim protectors on defense for the Frogs has given opposing offenses fits as TCU has not let up 60 points in a game this season (the Frogs have also not scored below 60 points in a game this season).
Marta Suarez put up her second straight double-double with 24 points, ten rebounds, and five assists on 60% shooting from three point range. Suarez took ten three pointers and knocked down six of them, both of which were season highs for her, as she continues to showcase her offensive versatility. The Cal transfer is averaging a career high 19 points per game this season and is proving to be one of the most underrated additions in the nation. Olivia Miles filled up the stat sheet with 22 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and one steal. Miles did a great job of taking what the defense gave her, attacking switches on the pick and roll and finding open teammates when the defense sent extra help her way. Maddie Scherr was another effective distributor for the Frogs with six assists and just one turnover in this game. Clara Silva was effective on both ends with nine points, 11 rebounds including six offensive rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Taylor Bigby scored in double figures off the bench for the second consecutive game with 12 points, two rebounds, and an assist on 71.4% shooting from the field. Bigby has been an effective bench scorer for the Frogs this season, averaging 9.2 points per game on 58.8% shooting from the field, 57.9% shooting from three, and just 0.5 turnovers per game.
The Frogs will be back in action on Thanksgiving, November 27th and 8:00 pm against Richmond in Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge non-conference tournament. TCU has a chance to pick up a solid win over a Richmond team that is 5-1 with their only loss being on the road at number four ranked Texas.
