We knew WWE Champion Sami Zayn was coming to Monday Night Raw in San Diego this week because he announced as much on Friday Night SmackDown last week. He said he had something to say to World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and he would say it to his face. We didn’t have to wait long for the two to share the ring.
They kicked off the show to get the build to their big matchup at Crown Jewel
started proper. It started with a surprise — Reigns saying “it’s good to see you” and Zayn offering him a hug
in response. “Could not feel more of the same, brother!”
The thing he had to tell him? He finally understands everything Reigns was telling him while they were running together in The Bloodline. The burden of being champion, the constant disrespect that comes from everywhere, it all makes sense to Sami now.
The Tribal Chief wondered about his true intentions, however. Did he come to Raw to talk about their titles or did he come to serve The Bloodline in its war against The 946?
Naturally, an argument broke out about how prestigious the titles they are holding actually are. Reigns claimed it’s not about the belt but rather the man holding it because “that title hasn’t meant shit since WrestleMania 40.” That is, of course, when Reigns lost it to Cody Rhodes.
Zayn plead his case and was again shot down, this time with an insult there wasn’t much of a response for — “by the time we get to Crown Jewel, you may not even be champion.”
That’s when Penta showed up with his Money in the Bank briefcase, staring down both champions as he made his entrance for his scheduled match against Bron Breakker. He spent more time on Zayn, for whatever it’s worth.
