After Freddy Peralta slotted into the top spot in our rankings last week, we’re back with the No. 2 spot today. The BCB community voted for second baseman Brice Turang in the second spot, as Turang garnered 13 votes in The Feed, compared to seven votes for William Contreras and one vote apiece for Quinn Priester and Christian Yelich.
Turang led the Brewers in bWAR (5.6) and fWAR (4.4) in 2025, even with a worse year defensively than he had in 2024, when he took home the NL’s Platinum Glove Award.
Instead, he took a huge step forward offensively, as he slashed .288/.359/.435 (121 OPS+) with 18 homers, 81 RBIs, and 24 steals after hitting .254/.316/.349 (86 OPS+) with seven homers, 57 RBIs, and 50 steals in 2024.
We’ve been told for a while that Turang has shown power during batting practice, but that didn’t translate to in-game power until this season. Like Peralta, who won NL Pitcher of the Month in August, Turang had a huge month of August, hitting .343/.398/.694 with 10 homers, six doubles, 24 RBIs, and 23 runs to win NL Player of the Month.
As mentioned above, Turang’s defense did take a step back in 2025, but he still ranked as a solid fielder, finishing as a finalist for the NL Gold Glove Award at second base. He finished right in the middle of the pack per Baseball Savant’s fielding run value metric, though he finished below average for outs above average (-1, 34th percentile) and arm strength (23rd percentile).
The rest of his Savant page is a whole lotta red, though, as he finished in the top 30% for batting run value (80th percentile), baserunning run value (84th percentile), average exit velocity (91.1 mph, 75th percentile), hard-hit rate (47.4%, 76th percentile), squared-up rate (27.9%, 71st percentile), chase rate (23.8%, 78th percentile), whiff rate (21%, 72nd percentile), walk rate (10%, 71st percentile), and spring speed (28.9 mph, 88th percentile).
While his strikeout rate jumped from 17% to 22.8%, he did improve his walk rate and improved in most other areas offensively, too. Overall, it was a great season for Milwaukee’s former first-round pick, and he’ll look to continue to build on that in his age-26 season next year.
