Bayern kicked tires on Sterling in the summer (Daily Telegraph’s Sam Wallace)
Per one report, Bayern Munich attempted to get Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling on transfer deadline as it was also negotiating to get Nicolas Jackson:
Bayern inquired about Raheem Sterling on deadline day when they were in negotiations with Chelsea over Nicolas Jackson. Napoli were also interested. For reasons that are not clear, Sterling seemed reluctant to move abroad, or potentially even away from London.
Sterling most likely wanted no parts of leaving England, but Jackson was more than willing to oblige.
Dreesen eager for UCL to begin (t-online’s Julian Buhl via @iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen cannot wait for the Champions League to begin.
“For many years, we’ve had to establish ourselves on the international stage against clubs that have different financial resources than we do. FC Bayern will always remain true to its principles: We only spend what we earn. We won’t let ourselves be dissuaded from that,” said Dreesen. “FC Bayern has tremendous strength and global appeal thanks to its fans, its history, and the position it has built over the past decades. That means we will continue to be among the absolute top clubs in Europe in the coming years.”
Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 8, Episode 10 (Bavarian Football Works)
Bayern Munich is entering a rugged part of its schedule and the buzz surrounding the team should spike in the coming days. Let’s talk about where everything stands after a great weekend in the Bundesliga and ahead of key match against Chelsea in the Champions League:
- It was a good weekend for Bayern Munich as the Bavarians dominated Hamburger SV. What good can we take out of that ahead of a very important showdown against Chelsea in the Champions League.
- Thomas Müller dropped a hat trick on the Philadelphia Union…on his birthday. Let’s discuss…
- Should fans be concerned about all of the noise surrounding Michael Olise? With Liverpool and Manchester City (plus maybe Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona, too) all reportedly interested, things look a little dicey.
Everton wants to keep Grealish (ESPN)
Everton is hoping that it will be able to keep Jack Grealish after his season-long loan ends:
Everton are hopeful that they can sign Jack Grealish at the end of the season “on a bargain deal” despite having a £50 million option to make the winger’s loan from Manchester City permanent, as reported by the Daily Telegraph. The 30-year-old had initially been told by David Moyes that he would start his loan on the bench, but has instead become an immediate fan favourite and was even named Premier League Player of the Month for August.
United realizing it might need Upamecano (GiveMeSport)
Manchester United is expected to remain hot for Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano:
Manchester United could look to strengthen their defensive ranks next summer with a move for one of Europe’s leading centre-backs, according to reports – with the Red Devils eyeing up a move for Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano to bolster their ranks.
There are a plethora of defenders who have contracts expiring next summer, including Marc Guehi and Ibrahima Konate to name but a few – though Upamecano is another option and United could look to go for the Frenchman whilst the others are sought-after by Champions League clubs.Bayern are yet to renew, opening the door to a potential Old Trafford switch, and he’s considered one of the Bundesliga’s ‘most solid players’, though his salary demands have stalled talks with the German top-flight champions, sparking interest from United.
United are thought to want to give Amorim the ‘tools’ to return the club to the upper echelons of the Premier League once again. Despite having the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire among others, it’s thought that INEOS see Upamecano as a ‘significant upgrade’ to their defensive ranks.
Upamecano earns around €16million per season (£13.85million), which works out at about £266,000-a-week – which could be a huge amount of money for the Red Devils to part with. However, Casemiro and Maguire are out of contract at the end of the campaign and those wages could be spent on another player in the ilk of Upamecano, who has been dubbed as ‘world-class’. Upamecano has been valued at around £51million, which would mark a real coup for United if they were to land him on a free transfer for Ruben Amorim.
