In the middle of September, we posted the Heisman leaders at that time.
It was, by all admissions, a way-too-early look to be any kind of indicator as to how the race would stack up by the end of the season. The Heisman leaders at the time were Carson Beck (+800), John Mateer (+900), Gunner Stockton (+1100), Dante Moore (+1300), and Marcel Reed (+1600).
Mateer, Stockton, and Reed are out of the running now, either because of injury or losses. As of today, the Heisman leaders are:
- Dante Moore (QB, Oregon) +600
- Carson Beck (QB, Miami) +750
- Ty Simpson (QB, Alabama) +850
- Jeremiah Smith (WR, Ohio State) +1000
- Trinidad Chambliss (QB, Ole Miss) +1300
- Fernando Mendoza (QB, Indiana) +1300
We are starting to
see players that are representing some of the top-ranked teams in college football. We also have our first non-QB in the Heisman race with the emergence of OSU’s Jeremiah Smith.

Tomorrow or the next day we should see Carson Beck nudge Dante Moore at the top of the Heisman race. Moore did not play (Oregon had the bye week), and Beck had a Heisman-worthy game last night against FSU, passing 20-27 (74%) for 241 yards and 4 TDs, for a QB rating of 197.9.

Should Dante Moore have the game against #8 Indiana that I think he will have on Saturday, Moore should again be leading the Heisman race.
