Jaylen Brown has been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Brown averaged 34 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists, leading the Celtics to wins over the New
York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Toronto Raptors. He shot 53.8% from the field, 47.1% from three, and 88.9% from the free throw line.
This season, Brown is averaging 29.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists. Both his points and assists are career-highs, while his 36.3% three-point shooting mark is his best since the 2020-21 season.
Brown has tallied 13 games of at least 30 points this season, which is tied with Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell for the second-most in the NBA (behind Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander).
The Celtics star’s strong individual performance has translated to winning; the Celtics are 15-9 and winners of 10 of their last 12 games. They also have the league’s second-best offensive rating and fifth-best net rating.
After winning five straight games, they now hold the Eastern Conference’s third-best record.
Derrick White also nominated for Eastern Conference Player of the Week
Derrick White was also nominated in the East, along with Jalen Brunson (Knicks), Jalen Johnson (Hawks), Tyrese Maxey (76ers), and Michael Porter Jr. (Nets).
White averaged 24.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.5 rebounds across four wins last week, scoring a season-high 30 points against the Washington Wizards, in a game that Brown was sidelined for with illness. After a very tough start to the season, White is now averaging 17.5 points and 5.3 assists per game.
In the Western Conference, Jamal Murray was named Player of the Week after leading the Denver Nuggets to a 3-1 record and averaging 29.8 points and 7.5 assists per game.
