Atletico Madrid have responded strongly to Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s latest comments about Julian Alvarez.
Laporta has said that Barcelona would still like to sign the Argentina international, who has asked for a transfer, and says he would like Atletico to accept his club’s offer.
Those words do not appear to have gone down well at Atletico. A new report from Marca quotes a club source with some pretty strong quotes.
“The player is being portrayed as a victim, but the only victims in the Julián
case are us,” is the word from Atletico. “They’ve hurt us both financially and socially. There’s a 0% chance of selling him to Barça.”
Atletico also add that: “This situation isn’t about money, it’s about dignity” and claim “a campaign has been created with many lies and half-truths. The only one paying the price for this is Atlético.”
The update reinforces the idea that Atletico will simply refuse to sell Alvarez this summer. The Argentine forward only appeared as a substitute last time out, and was whistled by fans, and missed training today due to illness.
