Following the trade for wide receiver A.J. Brown, the New England Patriots placed tight end Julian Hill on injured reserve with an unknown injury.
His 2026 season is now over.
The Patriots signed Hill to a three-year, $15 million deal in free agency this past March after the tight end was not tendered by the Miami Dolphins as a restricted free agent. He projected to play an immediate role as an in-line blocker, while the team thought Hill had untapped potential as a pass catcher.
“Really kind of improved
each year that he’s been in it,” executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf said of Hill. “And you know, we think there’s probably still some meat on the bone in the passing game as well for him, but certainly a physical tough guy at the point of attack.”
With Hunter Henry remaining atop the Patriots tight end depth chart, third-round rookie Eli Raridon will now likely take on a bigger role behind him.
Jack Westover, C.J. Dippre and undrafted free agent Tanner Arkin round out the current depth chart.
