Bad news for WWE fans in Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
The SmackDown that was announced for Cincinnati’s Heritage Bank Center on Fri., Sept. 4 has been cancelled. Cincy native, former Cageside staffer, and current rockstar for The Takedown on SI.com’s Rick Ucchino verified as much with the venue after word started going around earlier today (June 19):
I have confirmed with the Heritage Bank Center that the September 4 edition of #SmackDown in Cincinnati has been cancelled. No reason was
provided, and no word on a make-good at this time.
There’s also no word on where the Labor Day weekend SmackDown will take place or be taped. The Cincinnati date was announced back on May 7, and tickets went on sale eight days later. If you already bought yours, Ticketmaster is automatically issuing refunds.
This is the second Labor Day weekend schedule change WWE has announced recently. The company moved Money in the Bank to October and replaced it with a special Sunday Night’s Main Event special on Sun., Sept. 6 from Atlanta.
It’s likely we’ll hear some more about the reasoning for this. Stay tuned, and feel free to discuss and speculate in the comments below.
