FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has shut down a claim that was making the rounds online that his son Thiago, 13, had joined Barça’s academy, La Masia.
Prior to his current club, Inter Miami, taking on Atlético San Luis in the Leagues Cup, Messi was asked directly: “Is Thiaguito leaving?”
Messi needed just one word: “No.”
Thiago is Lionel Messi’s eldest son and plays for Miami’s academy. “He’s more of a thinker, more of an organizer, more of a midfielder,” the elder Messi said about his style of play.
Some parallels were drawn online by people who noted that the son is close to the exact age the father was when he left this hemisphere to join La Masia. But as it stands, that’s nothing more than a comparison drawn by gossipers.
Thiago has already been a part of Barcelona’s youth programs, having attended the Barça Escola between 2016 and 2019. He also was a part of Paris Saint-Germain’s academy when his father played there, before joining Inter Miami’s youth program once the star went to MLS.
As for the GOAT, well, he was back to doing GOAT things as he scored twice and assisted once in Miami’s 4-2 win over San Luis.
