After capping off a historic regular season with a double-digit win over their arch rivals, the Michigan men’s basketball team stayed near the top of the AP Poll and remained at No. 3 behind No. 1 Duke and No. 2 Arizona heading into conference tournament week.
Michigan stayed as the No. 1 team in the country on Evan Miya’s ratings, but did move down to No. 2 in Bart Torvik’s analytics model. The Wolverines are also No. 2 in the NET rankings and on KenPom.
Michigan will begin its quest for a second
straight Big Ten Tournament title on Friday afternoon, as the No. 1-seeded Wolverines will take on a to be determined opponent at noon ET. There are four possible opponents: No. 8 seed Ohio State, No. 9 seed Iowa, No. 16 seed Oregon or No. 17 seed Maryland. Michigan played all four of these teams in the regular season and beat them all, including twice against the Buckeyes.
Update on the women’s team
The Michigan women’s basketball team won one game in the Big Ten Tournament this past week — an 80-58 blowout win vs Oregon — before falling to the No. 2-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes, 59-42, in the semifinals.
Heading into a bye week for all of women’s college basketball, Kim Barnes Arico and her squad are at No. XXX in this week’s AP Poll. The Wolverines will await their fate and find out on Sunday evening what seed they earned in the NCAA Tournament.
