Today, the Seattle Reign alongside Veronica Latsko announced that she will be retiring at the end of the 2025 season. The club plans to celebrate her career at their home match on September 14 at Lumen Field when they take on Racing Louisville.
“From the moment I was traded to Seattle, I was fully embraced by the players and coaching staff, and it immediately felt like a family. Regardless of how you were performing on the field, you consistently had that family feel. They were there for you through
the highs and the lows. To have everyone in Seattle in my corner and feel that constant support… that’s why this has become such a home to me and is the place I want to stay in the next part of my career,” said Latsko.
Throughout her career, Latsko has been a fan favorite player who has an ability to change matches.
She was drafted by the Houston Dash in 2018 and spent four seasons with the club. Then, she was traded to the Reign in 2022, where she has played in 61 regular season matches. The attacker has scored 15 regular season goals and contributed 7 assists for the Reign.
With the Reign, Latsko contributed to their 2022 NWSL Shield win and their playoff run in 2023, where she was one of the club’s most impactful players. She scored two game-winning goals in the 2023 quarter-finals and semi-finals, leading the Reign to a Championship appearance. This memorable playoff run was one of the highlights of Latsko’s career.
“For me, the 2023 season was incredible. Just being a part of that incredible Reign squad is such a treasured memory,” said Latsko.
“The playoffs in 2023 were unforgettable – Getting to go down to San Diego, beating San Diego and watching Harvs jump into the pool after that game because that was the bet she had to fulfill. That was probably one of the biggest highlights of my career. That three-week period of 2023 was just awesome.”
After retiring, 29-year-old Latsko will begin law school in Seattle. She wants to use the law degree to come back to the sport as an advocate.
“I know that when I leave this game, I don’t want to say goodbye to it. I want to come back to it, and I want to come back as an advocate to make sure that it’s still growing in the same trajectory, with the players at the forefront of that,” Latsko shared.
As an NWSLPA representative, Latsko cares deeply about player welfare and wants to use her law degree and soccer experience to advocate for better playing conditions.
“It’s going to continue to expand and when things grow, it’s easy for people or things to get left behind and forgotten about. I want to make sure that the players and their welfare is at the forefront during this growth period.” said Latsko.
Latsko expressed gratitude for her fellow players and fans who supported her throughout her career.
She said, “The best part of my career was the people I met along the way. From the players I played with in Houston, to my best friends in Seattle, to the fans, that is by far the best part. I’ll always consider those people forever friends and I’ll always be here. I’m not going anywhere.”
