Because we live in a world of 24/7 media coverage, there’s bound to be lots of really bad takes.
The latest involved Luka Dončić and his trip to Spain. After suffering his hamstring injury, Luka pretty quickly jetted to Europe for injections in hopes of accelerating his return to the court.
However, as we now know, that hasn’t happened. And with the updates prior to Wednesday focusing on Luka’s slow recovery, people had the chance to concoct wild theories about why Luka actually went to Spain.
Enter
Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Already an unpopular figure with another superstar in the Lakers locker room, Windy went on the “Rich Eisen Show” earlier this week and suggested Luka went to Spain not for injections, but to see his family.
Wouldn’t you know it, but Windy’s entirely baseless claim that wasn’t grounded in any reality turned out not to be true! On Wednesday, Luka spoke for the first time since his injury and was asked about going to Spain and why he was there for so long.
“Yeah, I went to Spain to do PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and everybody knows it’s one of the best countries to do that,” Luka said. “Obviously, we talked with the Lakers’ doctors, so everybody agreed for me to go there. Obviously, I know and trust lots of people from Spain that I used to work with before.
“But why I was in Spain so long is because I needed four days in between every shot, so I did it four times. So that’s why I stayed longer.”
I’m not entirely sure why Windhorst felt the need to randomly speculate on Luka. I’m not sure why that random speculation led him down a route of Luka going to Europe to see his family and not to try to heal his injury. It was very dumb and Luka very quickly put him back in his place.
In the words of LeBron James after his press conference during the 2018 NBA Finals, be better tomorrow.
