You missed out on this last week – well, actually you didn’t notice. You were upset about Penn State losing a stupid game to UCLA – me too. This week, well…you’re thinking about Penn State searching for
a new coach. Regardless, here’s what else has happened in the conference that Penn State is winless in this week.
Best Win of the Week: Indiana wins on the Road
For all the credit that the Indiana Hoosiers have gotten the past two years, the truth was this: IU hadn’t beaten anyone away from Bloomington that they weren’t suppose to beat. Well, that changed Saturday. The Hoosiers went on the road, knocked off Oregon, and established themselves as one of the best teams in the Big Ten. Indiana is on track to reach the Big Ten title game for the first time – a game they would play 45 minutes north of their campus in Lucas Oil Stadium. The Hoosiers have clearly established themselves as one of the best teams in the conference – and country.
Worst Loss of the Week: Well, you know… James Franklin loses at home – and his job
It was the nail in the coffin. We had written about it so much here that Penn State was hurting after Oregon, then done after UCLA. Well, any hopes of a 2016 rally were dashed on Saturday as a listless Penn State team lost to Northwestern, saw its multi-million dollar quarterback go down to injury, and saw its head coach relieved of his duties. We’ve seen a lot of worst in this segment over the years, but yes, this was the “worst” worst.
Offensive Player of the Week: King Miller, USC
In a reserve role, the former walk-on ran for better than 150 yards and a touchdown as USC knocked off Michigan in a Saturday night game.
Defensive Player of the Week: Aiden Fischer, Indiana
Hey – how about double digit tackles, a sack, and an amazing post-game interview. That’s what Fischer came up with in a win against Oregon on Saturday.
Offensive Play of the Week: Illinois scores at goal line against Ohio State
Yes. Yes. Yes. Ohio State is the best team in the conference. But, I’m here to show you cool plays -and look at this one. Illinois stayed in the game early at home against the Bucks, partially because of this little trick.
Defensive Play of the Week: Minnesota knocks off Purdue
Koi Perich is a dog – not a fish. He came through with the play of the game here against the Boilermakers on Saturday night as the Gophers came away with a win.
Most Big Ten Moment of the Week: Welcome back Maryland
Yes, October Maryland is here – and they were here last week. It was the classic fast start for the Terps, but they’ve lost the last two as the calendar hits October.
Most Big Ten West Moment of the Week: Northwestern being Nortwestern
No tweets, just honest. Northwestern played the game we all expected on Saturday at Beaver Stadium: keep things in front, don’t turn it over, etc. Well, it worked for the Wildcats and it hurts to say that Penn State was out coached and out prepped for the…whatever week it is in the season.
Most Iowa Moment of the Week: Hawkeyes shut down Wisconsin
We try to poke jabs at the Hawkeyes and their way of doing business on the football field in this neck of the woods. Well, bad news. Iowa has found its footing and gets the Lions at home in a night game this Saturday. We know how this ends…
What We’re Looking Forward to the Most: I don’t know
For real. I don’t know. You, the BSD reader, please tell me.
