The 2025 Tennessee football season officially kicks off today, with the Volunteers heading south to Mercedes Benz Stadium to face the Syracuse Orange. Josh Heupel is opening up year five with yet another quarterback in the fold as Joey Aguilar will see his first ever action in the orange and white today.
Tennessee will also be moving into life without Dylan Sampson, as DeSean Bishop, Peyton Lewis and Star Thomas will all see action today. The Volunteers will be breaking in four new starters up front
on the offensive line, along with several new faces at wide receiver.
Syracuse will also have a completely new look from last season, where Fran Brown exploded onto the scene with a 10-3 record. Brown enters today very familiar with the Tennessee football program.
This will be the fourth ever meeting between Syracuse and Tennessee. The Volunteers have won all three in the series, most notably in 1998 and 2001. They’ll look to move to 4-0 today.
