The progression of a young player is often a very uneven road. Bayern Munich’s Tim Binder, for example, was never really hailed as any of the Bavarians’ top talents. Just a couple of years ago, he was getting audibly yelled at in the U-19s for utterly failing in every 1v1 dribble he attempted in a match. Now, all of a sudden, he is thrust into focus for Bayern’s first team as he could be set to play a crucial role in their Champions League match against Atlético Madrid.
Harry Kane, of course, knows
all about how uneven the road can be. He was farmed out on loan for multiple years at Tottenham Hotspur before getting his chance in the squad and never looking back. Now, expecting Binder to turn into another Kane would be silly, but it is fair to say that all the ingredients are there for youth players to gain more prominence. Certainly, Kane would not bet against Binder grabbing the opportunity with both hands.
“Binder has been really good,” he confirmed in the press conference ahead of the Atlético Madrid match (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). ” I don’t know if he’s the better-looking twin or not between him and Bishi [Tom Bischof], it’s a good competition there [laughs]. He’s been really good. He’s settled into the team, trains really well. I think he had a bit of game time in pre-season, which is good for him to get on the pitch on Wednesday at the Allianz, so yeah, this is the opportunity sometimes for a young player, when you have a few injuries, that’s why you train, that’s why you put yourself in a situation to hopefully take a chance.”
It really is remarkable just how much Binder and Bischof look alike. They even have the same initials! But if Binder could also replicate the 21-year-old’s impact on Bayern’s season thus far, then he and Bayern could be quite happy indeed.
