The Atlanta Falcons were reportedly interested in Azeez Ojulari at the trade deadline back in 2024, but he did not not join the team in 2025. With a new regime in town, though, the Georgia native and Georgia Bulldog is coming home.
This is another buy-low opportunity for Atlanta. Ojulari was coming off a six sack season with the Giants when the Eagles signed him last year to a one year, $4 million pact; unfortunately the young defender appeared in just three games before a hamstring injury cost him the rest
of the season. Presumably fully healthy now, Ojulari will take another shot at building up his value by joining a team that badly needed capable edge defenders.
It’s a hard move to dislike, and certainly I like it. Ojulari has only been a standout sack artist once, in his 2021 rookie season, when he managed 42 pressures and eight sacks. But he can be a productive player in an attacking scheme like Atlanta’s, and his run defense has quietly but steadily improved the past couple of seasons. His typically high missed tackle rate and the lack of standout production ought to limit the price the Falcons pay here, but as a still young and clearly talented defender who has shown flashes of high-end upside, Ojulari makes a lot of sense for a team that has a ton of question marks in their EDGE group.
Like fellow signings Cameron Thomas, Christian Harris, and Tua Tagovailoa, Ojulari will come to Atlanta with something to prove. So long as he’s healthy, I like his chances of rebounding nicely and enjoying a quality season here, as he won’t lack for opportunities in a defense that will let him chase the quarterback.
Give him a warm welcome, as is custom!
