Week 1 of the NFL regular season came to a close with a total of 18 Maryland football alumni seeing action.
Leading the charge during the opening week was Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore. The eight-year veteran played in his first game under the new regime of head coach Ben Johnson, a 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
Moore caught three passes for 68 yards and also earned snaps at running back — a wrinkle Maryland fans may remember from his time in College Park — carrying
the ball three times for eight yards. The former Terp led the game in receiving yards despite the Bears’ loss.
Moore briefly exited the game with two minutes left after being hit hard in the midsection on a pass over the middle, needing support leaving the field. He returned shortly after, but did not touch the ball again.
Moore’s status remains unclear for Week 2, but if he is able to play, it will come on the road Sunday against the 0-1 Detroit Lions.
