The Milwaukee Brewers are set to wrap up their seven-game homestand with a four-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks this week. Milwaukee has dropped two consecutive series as they’ve cooled off a bit from their 14-game win streak to begin August, though they remain five games up on the Cubs in the NL Central. The D-backs, sellers at the deadline despite being less than two years removed from a World Series appearance, sit at 64-67 on the season, 5.5 games behind the Mets for the final NL Wild
Card spot.
Milwaukee’s injured list includes a few familiar names from the offense, as Jackson Chourio, Rhys Hoskins, Garrett Mitchell, and Joey Ortiz are all shelved. Mitchell is out for the season while the other three bats should be back in the coming weeks, with Chourio and Hoskins due first. On the mound, lefty Robert Gasser is nearing a return from Tommy John surgery as he rehabs in the minors, while reliever Rob Zastryzny could also return soon. Rookies Logan Henderson and Connor Thomas may be done for the year, while DL Hall is aiming for a mid-September return from an oblique strain.
The D-backs injured list is entirely pitchers, with righties Ryan Thompson, Justin Martinez, former friend Corbin Burnes, Anthony DeSclafani, Cristian Mena, Christian Montes De Oca, and Kevin Ginkel all out. DeSclafani and Thompson are the only ones likely to return this year, as the pitching staff has taken a beating. The same goes for lefties Tommy Henry, Blake Walston, and A.J. Puk, who are also out for the year. Ouch.
Christian Yelich sets the pace for Milwaukee’s offense with 26 homers, while Brice Turang has had a great month of August to boost his season line to .286/.351/.426 with 14 homers. William Contreras and Sal Frelick have also been solid recently, while Andrew Vaughn has cooled down a little bit after a hot start to his time in Milwaukee. Rookies Isaac Collins and Caleb Durbin, as well as Jake Bauers, Blake Perkins, Andruw Monasterio, Danny Jansen, Anthony Seigler, and Brandon Lockridge, round out the offensive group. As a team, the Brewers are hitting .257/.332/.404 (.736 OPS ranks 11th) with 138 homers (19th), 666 runs (second), and 139 steals (second).
After Eugenio Suárez was traded away at the deadline, Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte are the only big names left on the D-backs roster. Lourdes Gurriel, Geraldo Perdomo, Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith, Adrian Del Castillo, Jake McCarthy, Blaze Alexander, James McCann, and Ildemaro Vargas round out the regulars for Arizona. As a team, the Diamondbacks are hitting .250/.325/.439 (.764 OPS ranks third) with 182 homers (fifth), 645 runs (sixth), and 96 steals (15th).
Abner Uribe’s 1.73 ERA and 62 appearances set the pace for Milwaukee’s bullpen, with closer Trevor Megill having a pair of blown saves against the Giants over the weekend as his ERA rose to 2.54 for the year. Jared Koenig, Nick Mears, and Aaron Ashby have also been solid, while Grant Anderson has been given high-leverage opportunities at times this year. Shelby Miller, the former D-back, has also been a solid addition. As a team, the Brewers have a 3.57 team ERA (third), including a 3.40 starter ERA (second) and a 3.80 bullpen ERA (10th). They’ve struck out 1,143 batters (sixth) over 1,166 2/3 innings.
Arizona’s bullpen has been depleted between injuries and trade deadline moves, as Jalen Beeks now leads the team with 50 appearances this year, though his 3.99 ERA isn’t ideal. Juan Morillo adds 37 appearances, while Kyle Backhus, former Brewer John Curtiss, Andrew Saalfrank, Jake Woodford, Juan Burgos, and Bryce Jarvis round out the bullpen. As a staff, the D-backs have a 4.52 team ERA (25th), including a 4.35 starter ERA (20th) and a 4.79 bullpen ERA (26th). They’ve struck out 1,047 batters (21st) over 1,167 innings.
Probable Pitchers
Monday, August 25 @ 6:40 p.m.: Brandon Woodruff (2.47 ERA, 3.50 FIP) vs. Eduardo Rodríguez (5.40 ERA, 4.69 FIP)
Woodruff, who was dealing with some “gastrointestinal issues” prior to his last start against the Cubs, is coming off his worst start of the year, as he went just 4 1/3 innings with three runs allowed, though he did strike out six. For the season, Woodruff is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA, 3.50 FIP, and 55 strikeouts across 43 2/3 innings through eight starts. In seven career appearances (six starts) against the D-backs, Woodruff is 2-1 with a 4.28 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings.
Rodríguez, in his second season with the D-backs after signing a big four-year, $80 million deal with them, has struggled in his time with Arizona. Over 32 starts between 2024 and 2025, he’s 8-11 with a 5.29 ERA, 4.65 FIP, and 162 strikeouts over 166 2/3 innings. He’s been particularly bad this year, with a 5-7 record, 5.40 ERA, 4.69 FIP, and 115 strikeouts over 116 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs over 6 2/3 innings with four strikeouts against the Guardians his last time out. The 10-year veteran has made three career starts against Milwaukee, with a 2.60 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings, though he has an 0-2 record.
Tuesday, August 26 @ 6:40 p.m.: Jacob Misiorowski (4.19 ERA, 3.24 FIP) vs. Brandon Pfaadt (4.95 ERA, 4.35 FIP)
The Miz, who got off to a red-hot start when he debuted back in June, has struggled in his two outings since returning from the IL. Against the Reds and Cubs, he’s totaled just 5 1/3 innings on 132 pitches with eight strikeouts but eight runs allowed. For the season, he has a 4.19 ERA, 3.24 FIP, and 55 strikeouts over 38 2/3 innings. This is his first career start against Arizona.
Pfaadt, 26, is in his third season with the D-backs after debuting back in 2024. The former fifth-round pick has consistently had a FIP lower than his ERA, with a career FIP of 4.22 compared to a 5.02 ERA. That trend remains true in 2025, as he’s 12-8 with a 4.95 ERA, 4.35 FIP, and 113 strikeouts over 140 innings. He went seven strong innings against the Guardians his last time out, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. He’s made two career starts against Milwaukee, with a 1-1 record, 9.35 ERA, and 12 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings.
Wednesday, August 27 @ 6:40 p.m.: Quinn Priester (3.44 ERA, 4.36 FIP) vs. Ryne Nelson (3.63 ERA, 3.68 FIP)
Priester, who looked great for much of the season, hasn’t looked quite as sharp his last few times out, though the Brewers have still managed to win every game he’s pitched in since late May. The 24-year-old righty has a 3.44 ERA, 4.36 FIP, and 104 strikeouts over 128 1/3 innings this season. He went 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and one run allowed on three hits and five walks against the Cubs his last time out. His lone appearance against Arizona came in 2024 with the Pirates, when he allowed five runs and struck out two over four innings of work in relief in what turned out to be his last appearance before being traded to Boston.
Nelson, 27, is in his fourth season with Arizona after debuting in 2022. The former second-round pick is enjoying his best season yet with a 3.63 ERA, 3.68 FIP, and 105 strikeouts over 119 innings across 27 appearances (17 starts) this year. He went six frames against the Reds in his last start, allowing three runs with six strikeouts in an extra-innings victory. Nelson has made two career appearances (one start) against Milwaukee, including a three-inning relief appearance earlier this year. In total, he’s allowed four runs and struck out nine over eight innings (4.50 ERA).
Thursday, August 28 @ 1:10 p.m.: Jose Quintana (3.32 ERA, 4.77 FIP) vs. Nabil Crismatt (1.00 ERA, 2.45 FIP)
Quintana, 36, has been great this season at allowing baserunners to reach but keeping them off the scoreboard. Through 20 starts this year, he’s 10-4 with a 3.32 ERA, 4.77 FIP, and 75 strikeouts over 111 innings. He went 5 1/3 solid innings against San Francisco on Friday night, allowing two runs on two hits (both homers) and two walks with two strikeouts. He’s made eight career starts against Arizona, including his Brewers debut back in April, when he worked seven scoreless innings in a winning effort. For his career, he’s 1-2 with a 6.13 ERA and 30 strikeouts across 39 2/3 innings against the D-backs.
Crismatt, 30, was signed by the D-backs after the Phillies released him at the trade deadline. He spent most of the season at Triple-A with Philadelphia, totaling 20 starts with a 3.96 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 102 1/3 innings. In two appearances (one start) with the D-backs, he’s 1-0 with one run allowed and nine strikeouts across nine innings (1.00 ERA) against the Rockies and Reds. The former Cardinal, Padre, and Dodger has made six career appearances (all in relief) against Milwaukee, with a 4.82 ERA and six strikeouts across 9 1/3 innings.

Prediction
The Brewers are looking to bounce back from a pair of disappointing series, and given the state of Arizona’s roster, this is their opportunity to do just that. I’ll take Milwaukee to win three of four and finish the homestand at 4-3.
