With speculation continuing to surround his future, Max Eberl is keeping his focus firmly on the job at hand.
Asked about his own contract situation, which is set to expire next summer, Bayern Munich’s board member for sport made it clear that his priority is not discussing his future, but continuing the work he was hired to do.
“That’s not my task. My task is to do my job. I’ve been doing that for over two years now: building a squad that can bring success, with players with whom we can identify,
playing football that people enjoy watching. That’s my task. And then a decision will be made about me. But that’s not our topic today,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The comments come at an interesting time. Reports suggest Bayern Munich’s supervisory board could delay a final decision on Eberl’s future until mid-November, rather than making a call at the end of August as initially expected. That would give him additional time to continue shaping the squad and demonstrate that his long-term vision is the right one for the club.
Eberl’s remarks also offer insight into how he defines success. It is not just about winning trophies. He emphasized building a squad capable of sustained success, filled with players supporters can identify with, while playing an attractive brand of football. That philosophy has been reflected in Bayern Munich’s recent transfer activity as the club continues to refresh its squad.
