The Green Bay Packers have announced their initial game statuses for Sunday’s action against the New England Patriots, following a week of practice. Five players have already been ruled out: tight end Josh Whyle (concussion), offensive lineman Travis Glover (knee), offensive lineman Sean Rhyan (ankle), linebacker Zaire Franklin (shin), and edge defender Micah Parsons (knee). Parsons remains on the physically unable to perform list, while the other four players are on the 53-man active roster.
With
four scratches already, the Packers are down to 49 options for their 48 players on game-day already, and that’s if their questionable players suit up: running back MarShawn Lloyd (knee) and cornerback Keisean Nixon (groin). Running back Chris Brooks, who is on the injured reserve at the moment but has his practice window open, is also listed as questionable.
Green Bay is not likely to carry more than three running backs or eight offensive linemen on the 48-man game-day roster, so I bet there’s at least one call-up from the practice squad this week, most likely to help on special teams while Isaiah McDuffie and Ty’Ron Hopper are full-time starting linebackers. This has been what the team’s plan has been in recent weeks.
On the Patriots’ end of the injury report, receiver A.J. Brown (ankle/knee) and running back TreVeyon Henderson (illness) have been ruled out for Week 9. Players listed as questionable by New England are safety Kevin Byard III (chest), cornerback Carlton Davis III (neck), tight end Hunter Henry (foot), receiver Mack Hollins (calf), tackle Morgan Moses (foot), safety Brenden Schooler (hamstring) and offensive lineman Greg Van Roten (hamstring).
