RU recipient of prestigious recognition
Then-Jets head coaches Herm Edward’s once famously said, “You play to win the game.”
But what happens when the game’s over?
That’s when life kicks in and that is what Rutgers was recognized for by NACDA, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. At its national convention, the group presented Rutgers with its 2026 Community Service Award. The Fiesta Bowl Community Service award was designed to recognize NACDA member institutions in Division I honoring exceptional athletics departments
that make volunteerism and community service a way of life. It comes with a $25,000 community service grant.
“We’re incredibly excited and honored to receive this recognition from NACDA and the Fiesta Sports Foundation,” said Carey Loch, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development and Success. “This award celebrates the remarkable impact our student-athletes make through their commitment to serving others and the strong relationships we’ve built with our community partners along the way.”
Rutgers has long worked to encourage athletes to be a part of the community, giving their time and energy off the field. Those efforts are directed by Scarlet Knights For Life and the Office of Student-Athlete Development and Success.
