Kentucky Wildcats wide receiver Cole Lanter will miss the entire 2025 season after suffering an injury during Fan Day, head coach Mark Stoops confirmed following the Wildcats’ second scrimmage Saturday.
“Unfortunately, Cole is going to be down for the year,” Stoops said. “It’s really disappointing for him. He’s worked extremely hard. He’s a great young man, has worked hard and done a lot for this program, and I hate to see that for him.” Stoops did not disclose the specifics of Lanter’s injury.
Lanter,
who is from Danville and a Boyle County High School product, originally committed to Kentucky as a preferred walk-on before the 2022 season. Lanter later earned a scholarship as a sophomore in 2023 and appeared in five games. Lanter decided to transfer after that season but returned to Lexington as a walk-on for the 2025 campaign, only to have his season cut short.
Despite Lanter’s absence, Kentucky enters the season with a crowded receiver room, with players like Ja’Mori Maclin, Hardley Gilmore IV, Montavin Quisenberry, Cameron Miller, and Fred Farrier II having drawn attention from coaches, while Troy Stellato, JJ Hester, and Kendrick Law have also seen significant practice time.
Even with Lanter out, Kentucky will have plenty of depth heading into the 2025 season. For now, it will be up to the players to prove they are ready for the challenge after Kentucky went 4-8 last year.
