The Buffalo Bills placed defensive tackle Dewayne Carter on injured reserve Thursday following his Achilles injury, and with the empty roster spot they have signed safety Sam Franklin, Jr. from their practice squad. Franklin originally signed with Buffalo on August 27th after he was released by the Denver Broncos. He is a former UDFA signing of the Panthers, but since he was a rookie in 2020, he never played with Sean McDermott or Brandon Beane.
During his five years in Carolina, he appeared in 74
games including nine starts. He is mostly viewed as a special teams contributor, logging more than 60% of the Panthers snaps in that phase in every season since 2021. He topped out at 84% of Carolina’s special teams snaps in 2024.
The Bills signed kicker Matt Prater to the open practice squad spot vacated by Franklin.
