João Palhinha’s potential move away from Bayern Munich appears to be entering its final stages.
With Benfica emerging as the leading destination for the Portuguese midfielder, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has now provided an update on the situation. Eberl acknowledged that there has been significant progress, while making it clear that the transfer is not quite finalized yet.
“There is a lot of movement regarding João. But there are still some details left to be clarified,” Eberl
said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That assessment comes as reports indicate Bayern Munich and Benfica have reached a verbal agreement over a permanent transfer, with the deal reportedly worth up to €19 to €20 million depending on bonuses.
Palhinha joined Bayern Munich from Fulham in 2024 but struggled to establish himself as a regular under Vincent Kompany. He spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and returned to Munich this summer with his future uncertain.
A return to Portugal with Benfica could now be very close, but as Eberl indicated, there are still a few final details to resolve before the move becomes official.
