Don’t say the “B” word around Mark Stoops this week.
With Kentucky sitting on a potential path to the postseason, the chatter among the fanbase has naturally turned to bowl eligibility and win totals. And
can you blame them?
I mean, 3 weeks ago, it was 2-5 and a dream to even get to 4 wins. So naturally, BBN wants to get a little amped.
Mark Stoops isn’t having it.
When asked on Monday if he would discuss the potential of clinching bowl eligibility with his team this week, Stoops offered a swift, firm denial.
“No, no,” Stoops said, cutting off the thought. “One game at a time.”
‘What does it matter?’
For Stoops, looking ahead is the quickest way to lose the game right in front of you, especially against a team as dangerous as Vanderbilt.
“There’s no point in talking about that,” Stoops continued. “We acknowledge the importance of it, but what does it matter if we don’t take care of business this week?”
It was a moment of intense focus from the head coach. After a clean performance against Tennessee Tech, the trap is set for a team looking too far down the road. Stoops is making sure the blinders stay on.
“It’s about us just handling our business here this week.”
Message received, Coach. Now, can they get it done on the field?
