Chris Jericho has nearly done it all in AEW. He is the inaugural world champion. The Ocho won the ROH world championship twice. Jericho is even a former FTW champion. He wrestled in unique matches such as Blood & Guts, Stadium Stampede, and the Mimosa Mayhem Match. The Demo God also shared the screen with MJF for a song and dance number.
This past Wednesday at Grand Slam Mexico, Jericho wrestled as Corazón de León, and he helped Darby Allin pin Kevin Knight for the win. Jericho intercepted Knight’s
coast to coast dropkick with the Judas Effect elbow strike. Allin finished the job with the Coffin Drop.
Little did Jericho know at the time that his efforts in Arena Mexico would lead to an opportunity to achieve something that he’s never done before in AEW.
Knight wants payback on Jericho, so he is offering a TNT Championship bout for Dynamite. Jericho has never reigned with that title belt before. AEW officially booked the match for Wednesday, August 12 in Las Vegas.
The story for this match unfolded on Collision. Allin wants another crack a Knight for the TNT title at All In, and he wants a special stipulation. Falls Count Anywhere. The motivation for that stipulation is that Knight attacked him outside the ring when this feud started.
Knight wasn’t interested in addressing Allin’s request, but he did have other business on his mind. Knight blamed the Grand Slam loss on Jericho, so he wants a chance to wipe that blemish off his record.
On the surface, it seems like Jericho’s goose is cooked before it is plucked. AEW is already making a strong push for Knight versus Allin at All In. Well, never say never. The feud with Allin doesn’t demand the TNT Championship, so it could be possible that Jericho scores the upset and celebrates with a little bit of the bubbly. You never know what will happen in Las Vegas.
