San Antonio Spurs Coach Mitch Johnson has announced that Victor Wembanyama will not play in game 3 of the playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday evening. Blazer’s Edge media correspondent Conor Bergin relayed the news minutes ago.
Wembanyama, the star of Game 1 of the series, left Game 2 in San Antonio with 8:57 remaining in the second quarter. On a play between Wembanyama the Blazers’ Jrue Holiday, Wembanyama drove to the basket, fell awkwardly, and his head made strong contact
with the floor. He left the game with five points, four rebounds and a block in 12 minutes of playing time.
In Game 1 of the series between the teams, Wembanyama scored 35 points, hitting 5-6 from three-point range.
Wembanyama averaged 25 points, 3.1 blocks, and 11.5 rebounds during the 2025-26 regular season. He was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season.
Wembanyama has made the trip with the Spurs for the weekend of games in Portland. The next opportunity for him to play will be Sunday afternoon in Game 4.
