The NFL’s “legal tampering” period begins Monday. Free agency officially begins on Wednesday. Deals will be verbally agreed to on Monday, with a wave of big-name signings expected to swiftly arrive.
The Tennessee Titans are equipped with more than $90 million in cap space. General manager Mike Borgonzi has the resources required to attract free agents to Nashville. Borgonzi prefers to build through the NFL Draft, so we’ll see how aggressive the Titans get.
We’ve identified five free agents the Titans
should begin pursuing on Monday.
Wan’Dale Robinson OR Alec Pierce, WR
The Titans are probably going to make a splash at wide receiver. Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is considered the premier player available at his position. Pierce is a specialized deep threat who generates explosive plays. Robinson has notable history with Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
John Franklin-Myers, DL
This feels like a foregone conclusion. There have been numerous reports linking John Franklin-Myers to the Titans. He previously played for numerous Titans coaches in New York, with Robert Saleh, Aaron Whitecotton, and Tanzel Smart all having coached him. This move would also reunite Franklin-Myers with Jermaine Johnson.
Cade Mays, C
The Titans need a new center after cutting Lloyd Cushenberry. The market suffered a blow when the Buffalo Bills re-signed potential Titans target Connor McGovern over the weekend. Unless Borgonzi is about to throw a bag at Tyler Linderbaum, Cade Mays may be the second-best remaining player at the position.
Bobby Okereke, LB
Easton Freeze has reported the Titans want to make a splash at linebacker. The New York Giants recently released Bobby Okereke. Okereke previously played for Titans defensive coordinator Gus Bradley and linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi, so familiarity is present.
Alontae Taylor, CB
The Titans need to add multiple cornerbacks this offseason. Alontae Taylor hails from Winchester, Tennessee and played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers. Taylor is a competitive and scrappy cornerback who would fit the identity of Saleh’s tough defense.
