TCU football is moving closer to its 2026 season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 29. As the Countdown to Kickoff continues, we’ll highlight a former Horned Frog whose jersey number coincided with the number of days remaining until the opener. At No. 17 is former TCU wide receiver Cory Rodgers!
Rodgers was a consistent targer for the Horned Frogs in the early 2000s, finishing his career with 150 catches for 2,111 yards and 17 touchdowns over three seasons. In 2004, Rodgers logged
a career-high 61 catches for 836 yards and seven scores. In 2005, Rodgers was named both a Second-Team All-American and a First-Team All-Mountain West Conference selection. After foregoing his senior season to pursue his professional career, Rodgers was taken by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
In 2003, Rodgers carved out roles on both offense and special teams as a true freshman. His 861 total return yards broke the school record previously set by TCU legend Davey O’Brien nearly 70 years earlier. Rodgers was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team as a receiver and return specialist. As a sophomore in 2004, Rodgers was named to the Third-Team All-CUSA roster as a receiver and return specialist. He returned two kicks for touchdowns in 2005, when he was named First-Team All-MWC as a returner and Third-Team as a receiver.
His four-year professional career included stints with the Packers (2006), San Francisco 49ers (2006) and both the BC Lions (2007-09) and Toronto Argonauts (2009) of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
