Barcelona boss Hansi Flick couldn’t hide his disappointment after seeing his team knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico on Tuesday night.
The Catalans won 2-1 in the Spanish capital but lose 3-2 on aggregate. Barca played a great game but saw a few decisions go against them and also lost Eric Garcia to a red card late on.
Flick was proud of his team’s performance but knows it’s another tough night in the Champions League for Barca.
“We’re disappointed. We had many chances. We had the opportunity
to make it 3-0 and then we conceded that goal. We’re disappointed,” he said after the game.
“We played a fantastic game. We played with one less player and the team was fantastic. I really appreciate what I saw today. We haven’t had much luck. That’s just how it is. We have to accept it.
“That’s football, it’s about small details. We have to do things better, but the mentality, the attitude… the team has given everything. That’s what we want to see. They’ve done a fantastic job, but we haven’t achieved it.”
Barca now have the weekend off before they return to La Liga action next week. The Catalans are currently nine points clear at the top and are in a strong position to retain their title.
