Dan Hurley and his staff have finally rounded out the roster for the 2026-27 season, picking up their 15th player in Russian forward Egor Amosov. The 18-year old is a 6-foot-7 wing who last played with Real Madrid’s U22 team in the Spanish Liga U, where he won the Liga U Player of the Year award. He will come to UConn as a true freshman.
The biggest need left on the UConn roster was for someone who could play minutes
as a backup power forward, and Amosov is the one who will be brought in to likely get a lion’s share of the minutes at that spot. He averaged 14.6 points and 6.0 rebounds in 30 games with Real Madrid while leading his team to a 25-5 record and a championship. Amosov also made one appearance for Real Madrid’s senior team in Janaury of this year. Before Real, he played three seasons with BC Samara in Russia, splitting his time with Samara 2 in the VTB Youth United League and the senior club in the VTB United League.
“Egor is an exciting young prospect who brings versatility at the forward spot,” head coach Dan Hurley said. “His skillset fits what we look for in wing players and raises the level of that position group. We think that can compete to make an impact right away.”
Amosov is the fourth foreign born player to be added to the Huskies’ roster this offseason. Oskar Giltay (Belgium), Nils Machowski (Germany), and Elmir Dzafic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) are the other three, but they all transferred in from other Division I programs. Amosov will be getting his first taste of college basketball in the United States when he arrives in Storrs.
With the roster now complete, Amosov gives UConn a three-man freshman class along with Junior County and Colben Landrew. Amosov is the 10th newcomer for the Huskies this season, signaling a new era beginning for the Huskies. With only four of the returners even expected to suit up this season with Solo Ball sitting out while recovering from wrist surgery, there will be a lot of unfamiliar faces that will quickly become household names for UConn fans.
