BYU added a cornerback to its room as Mississippi State transfer Jayven Williams announced his commitment to BYU Friday morning.
Jayven comes to BYU with 37 games of experience over 4 seasons. In 2025 as a redshirt junior, Jayven played in all 13 games for the Bulldogs, tallying 10 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception. His pick came in MSU’s win over Arizona State. Prior to Mississippi State, Williams
played at Kennesaw State where he played in 24 games with multiple starts.
The first thing that jumps about about Williams at his size. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Williams has good size and length for a corner. BYU returns cornerbacks Evan Johnson, Therrian Alexander, and Jonathan Kabeya; Williams adds to that room to give BYU some depth and another player that they can rotate in. Johnson and Alexander primarily play on the outside, and Jayven’s skillset seems better suited to rotate with those players as an outside corner. Jayven has one year of eligibility remaining.
