Intermat has released its first 2025 preseason rankings, and nine Rutgers wrestlers have made the list. The Scarlet Knights have someone named at every single weight class, besides the 125-pounders.
The highest-ranked of all the Rutgers Wrestlers is 174-pounder Lenny Pinto, who transferred in from Nebraska this year. During his time with the Cornhuskers, Pinto tallied 70 career wins, qualified for the national tournament 3 times, and was the runner-up in the 174 weight class at the 2025 Big Ten Wrestling
Championships. He advanced to the blood round at the national tournament in 2025 as well.
133-pounder Dylan Shawver was the only other Scarlet Knight to be ranked in the top 10, as he landed at No.9. Last season, Shawver was invited to the NCAA tournament, where he advanced to the blood round. He had 22 total victories in the 2024-2025 season. Throughout his career, Shawver has reached some incredible heights, such as being the Big Ten champion for his weight class in 2024.
Another highly ranked transfer for the Knights is 197-pounder Remy Cotton, who came to Rutgers from Michigan State. He was ranked as the 20th best player in his weight class according to Intermat. He made an appearance at the NCAA tournament this year, but lost his first two matches.
Other Rutgers wrestlers who were ranked include No.13 141-pounder Joey Olivieri, No.12 149-pounder Andy Clark, No. 31 157-pounder Connor Harer, No. 31 165-pounder Andrew Barbosa, No. 12 184-pounder Shane Cartenga-Walsh, and No.15 Heavyweight Hunter Catka.
Despite the new additions, Rutgers still has a lot of talent to replace for this upcoming season, as three-time NCAA qualifier 125-pounder Dean Peterson transferred from Rutgers to Iowa, and two-time NCAA qualifier 185-pounder Brian Soldano transferred to Oklahoma.
