Alejandro Garnacho’s move to Aston Villa was made official this morning, with the 22-year-old winger joining Villa for at least the season, and probably for well beyond. There’s a “conditional obligation” for Villa to make the move permanent should “certain criteria be met”. According to earlier reports, those criteria are not expected to be difficult to meet (minimum number of appearances and the like), and a four-year contract shall await him as well.
Chelsea’s brief statement, wishing him “the
best as he continues his career at Aston Villa” underlines the disappointment of his time at Stamford Bridge. Though he made 43 appearances and scored eight goals in all competitions, it’s safe to say that he couldn’t exactly get back to the promise of his early seasons at Manchester United. Perhaps he will have better luck at Villa.
“I was looking for a club to get confidence at and to try to be the player I was in my first years at Manchester United. I spoke with the manager and I think he will give me the confidence to be here and to help the team.”
