Barcelona star Raphinha has paid tribute to Robert Lewandowski after Sunday’s 3-1 win over Real Betis in La Liga.
The game was Lewandowski’s final match at Camp Nou as a Barcelona player, and the Brazilian says the striker has been an example to the whole team.
“Since arriving at the club, Lewy has contributed so much with his work, his goals, his personality, his experience. The most fitting thing we could do today is this tribute to him,” he said.
“We wanted him to score, but that’s okay. What’s important
is the affection we all have for him. We are grateful to have shared a dressing room with him.”
“Without playing, without minutes, he’s been an example. He’s worked incredibly hard, and from day one until today he’s been the same person, the same worker, having him on the team…”
Raphinha also spoke about the decision to hand Lewandowski the captain’s armband for the match.
“The truth is that Ronald, Pedri and I talked about it this morning and decided it was the least we could do for him,” he said.
“He’s one of the captains in the dressing room and it’s an honor to share this moment with him.”
Sunday’s win saw Barcelona end the season with a perfect home record, something Raphinha wants his team to repeat next year.
“It’s spectacular. Playing for this club, we always want to win every game, and to be able to finish the season winning all our home games is spectacular, it’s incredible, in front of our fans.” he added.
“Let’s hope next season is the same.”
