San Diego Wave FC has officially announced that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of their starting goalkeeper and captain, Kailen Sheridan.
“Kailen (Sheridan) has been an integral part
of this Club since day one,” said San Diego Wave FC Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton. “After discussions, we mutually agreed that this was the right decision for all parties. We thank her for the contributions to this Club and this city and wish her the best in the next chapter of her career.”
Sheridan has made been one of the faces of the Wave since its inception as its primary goalkeeper since their inaugural season in 2022. That year she won the goalkeeper of the year with eight clean sheets and was integral to the Wave’s attack with her long balls over the top that reached the Wave’s attackers such as Alex Morgan.
The 30-year-old holds the club record for minutes played with 8,128 minutes across her four seasons with the club. Sheridan took over full-time as the captain when Alex Morgan retired in the middle of the season in 2024, and was captain for most of the 2025 season. At times defender Kennedy Wesley wore the captain’s armband.
Defender, Kristen McNabb, is now the longest-tenured player on the team as a member of the original expansion side in 2022 and has played a total of 7,100 minutes in the NWSL regular season with the Wave.
As of publishing the Wave have no goalkeepers under contract for the 2026 season. Their third goalkeeper, Hillary Beall left in free agency and their backup, DiDi Haračić is still unsigned despite “active negotiations.”
