Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
2025 NFL trade deadline: Proposing 13 offers that make sense – ESPN Seahawks, Eagles swap corners. Eagles get: CB Riq Woolen, 2026 fifth-round pick.
Seahawks get: CB Kelee Ringo, 2026 fourth-round pick. Let’s swap frustrating cornerbacks. The Seahawks have seemingly fallen out of love with Woolen, who was benched for stretches in 2024 and got off to a rough start in 2025. The 6-foot-4 cornerback gave up a big gain to Ricky Pearsall and was out-jumped for the game-winning touchdown by Jake Tonges in Week 1. He has already committed six penalties in five games, including two flags for pass interference. In the final year of his deal, Woolen’s likely going to be wearing another uniform in 2026. He could wear an Eagles uniform in 2025, though. Philly desperately needs a third cornerback to play on the outside across from Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, and though Woolen has struggled to match what was a sterling performance as a rookie, he’s going to offer more upside than just about anybody the Eagles can acquire at the deadline. The other corners on the market are going to be either similarly frustrating young prospects (Cam Taylor-Britt of the Bengals, Joshua Williams of the Chiefs) or replacement-level journeymen (Saints corner Isaac Yiadom or Commanders corner Noah Igbinoghene). Woolen is a shot worth taking and a potential project for Vic Fangio over the rest of the season. The Seahawks would get some draft capital and their own developmental prospect in Ringo, who hasn’t been able to regularly crack the starting lineup in Philadelphia. Ringo has one extra year of team control, and he would slot in as a reserve cornerback when star Devon Witherspoon is healthy. The Seahawks would also lock in some draft capital, which wouldn’t be guaranteed if they let Woolen leave in free agency. They might see this move as addition by subtraction, frankly.
Eagles Opponent Film Room: Scouting the Minnesota Vikings’ defense – BGN
If you’re a fan of defensive football, this is the game to watch. The Vikings’ defense, run by Brian Flores, is one of the most fascinating units in the league right now. It’s not particularly stacked with elite individual talent, but it’s as well-coached and well-drilled as any defense in football. They’re currently ranked #1 in the NFL in overall defensive EPA (-0.20) and #1 against the pass (-0.42 EPA per play). That’s… pretty good. They do it through scheme, disguise, and chaos. Flores’s defense plays fast and makes quarterbacks think slowly. Let’s take a closer look at how they play, where they’re vulnerable, and how the Eagles might attack them.
NFL Week 7 Preview: Schedule, storylines, matchups to watch and betting spreads – PFF
Matchup to watch: Eagles RB Saquon Barkley vs. Vikings’ run defense. If there’s any game for a bounce-back for Barkley, it could be this week. As good as the Vikings’ defense is in pass coverage (65.6 grade; 8th), the unit has been inconsistent against the run. Minnesota slots 23rd in EPA per play allowed against the run, and 61.8% of its plays against the run have received a negative grade. Barkley is averaging just 3.4 yards per attempt, but is still eighth in runs of 10 yards or more.
2025 Game Review – NYG 34, PHI 17 – Iggles Blitz
Nick Sirianni is normally excellent at having his team ready to play on a short week. That wasn’t the case this time around. The Eagles had some chances, but looked a step slow too often. Sirianni and his assistants couldn’t figure out how to make the key plays on offense or get the critical stops on defense. There weren’t a lot of strategic decisions. The Eagles were 2 for 2 on fourth downs. Kevin Patullo had another up and down game. The offense looked good for parts of the first half. The red zone calls were good. There was another deep pass play that should have been a TD, but the throw was off. The offense struggled in the third quarter and then had a couple of costly turnovers in the fourth quarter. The Eagles were 1 of 9 on third downs. There weren’t many favorable situations, but that is still brutal. The coaches need to fix this fast.
Jordan Mailata has blunt message about lack of execution – NBCSP
How does Mailata know focus is a problem? “The film. The film,” Mailata said. “You turn the film on, it’s just like, ‘OK, we weren’t focused here.’ I’m not going to sit there and ask why they weren’t focused. Just, ‘Hey, do your f—ing job, just do your job. Just do your job.’” As a leader and captain, how has Mailata addressed this lack of focus? By relaying that message exactly. “‘Do your f—ing job.’ I’ve got to do my job, they got to do their job,” Mailata said. “Everyone’s got to do their job, which is why after my little bye week that we had, that’s why I was like, ‘Just do your job. Don’t look at anything else. Just dominate your box and everything will take care of itself.’ If everyone could just do that, that’s the message: Dominate your job.”
Eagles have rediscovered their swagger after passionate meeting: ‘We can’t be f—ed with’ – NJ.com
“Constant reminder with self-talk, talking with teammates, keeping spirits high at all times — just letting each other know, excuse my French, we can’t be f—ed with,” slot receiver Jahan Dotson told NJ Advance Media on Wednesday. “(Head coach) Nick (Sirianni) was really harping on that message in the team meeting today. We know what we’re capable of. It’s just about going out there and doing it.” There have been concerns about offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo’s play calling, but players continue to insist the struggles are on them — not him. To snap a two-game losing streak Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings and reassert themselves as Super Bowl contenders, Philadelphia’s top offensive playmakers need to deliver. “Yeah, a little bit,” Dotson said when asked if the Eagles had lost their swagger. “That tends to happen when you have back-to-back losses. You’re looking for an answer. You just got to remember in the back of your head — you’re that dude. We always got to remember who we are and what we can do for this football team. Just go out and make plays.”
Eagles-Vikings preview: The 5 matchups that will determine if the Birds can get right at U.S. Bank Stadium – PHLY
Isaiah Rodgers vs. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. While Wentz may be the most newsworthy familiar face on the Vikings, Isaiah Rodgers (and Javon Hargrave, for that matter) could each wind up being the bigger factor on Sunday. One season removed from serving as the first cornerback off the bench for the Eagles, Rodgers has quickly blossomed into a dynamic cornerback in Minnesota’s secondary. According to PFF, opposing quarterbacks’ passer rating when targeting him this season ranks third in the NFL among cornerbacks with at least 100 coverage snaps. The 27-year-old has given up just 11 catches on 27 targets this season with five pass breakups and one interception. As good as Rodgers has been this year, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith should present challenges. Brown especially has the size advantage against the 5-foot-10, 176-pound corner, who had some trouble at the catch point against bigger wideouts last season with the Eagles.
Eagles at Vikings Daily Updates: What is Nakobe Dean’s role in the defense? – PE.com
Nakobe Dean doesn’t know what the next step entails. He just knows that he is excited to be back in the mix, on the field, part of the Eagles’ defense as it prepares for Week 7 and the Minnesota Vikings. “It’s great. I love it,” said Dean, who saw his first action of the season against the Giants, playing six special teams snaps to mark his return after suffering a torn patellar tendon in last season’s playoff run. “Just to be part of the team again – I worked so hard coming back from the injury. It was gratifying to get back on the field. It was fun and to be back on the field, that meant everything to me.” What is Dean’s role with the Eagles so talented at linebacker? They have Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell starting and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Smael Mondon in reserve and on special teams. They are stacked. “I can control what I can control,” Dean said. “Whatever they want me to do, I’m here to do it. We have work to do with this defense, because we know we can be better than what we’ve been. That’s what we’re working for.
NFL Fantasy 2025 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Wide receivers for Week 7 – NFL.com
START ‘EM: He did so in different ways, but Addison scored 15-plus fantasy points in his first two games of the season. His first outing included the big play (an 81-yard catch), while his second was touchdown-enhanced. The Eagles are not a great matchup at first glance, but they have allowed the fourth-most yards to outside receivers. Addison has lined up out wide on 83 percent of his routes so far this season. Plus, he lines up on the right side at the highest rate of all Vikings, which is big if J.J. McCarthy starts, as the second-year pro clearly favors that side of the field.
Eagles at Vikings: First Injury Report – Daily Norseman
For the Vikings, Batty and Cashman have their 21-day windows open to return from IR and both look on track to be active on Sunday. Batty’s was open before the bye-week. Jurgens and Wentz as full participants in practice Wednesday also look to be on track to be active Sunday, although in what capacity remains to be seen. The fact that McCarthy was limited suggests he didn’t get as many reps as Wentz, making Wentz the more likely starter on Sunday at quarterback. It’s unclear who is getting first team reps at center, but Blake Brandel may have leapfrogged Jurgens to get the starting nod. Kevin O’Connell’s comments this week suggest there is at least a competition for the starting job with Ryan Kelly on IR, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Brandel who starts on Sunday. I’m guessing both O’Neill and Van Ginkel are more long shots to play on Sunday from O’Connell’s comments, but we’ll have to see how the week plays out. Van Ginkel practicing with full pads and helmet was promising, however.
J.J. McCarthy acknowledges his ankle is not fully healed – PFT
J.J. McCarthy injured his right ankle in Week 2. He’s back at practice but not yet at 100 percent. “It’s unfortunate and one of those really annoying injuries,” McCarthy said Wednesday, via Dave Campbell of the Associated Press, “but I’m just continuing to work to get to 100 percent as fast as possible.”
Now to the Latest on Those Fake Vietnamese Philadelphia Sports Accounts that Facebook Won’t Do Anything About – Crossing Broad
Poor Jason Kelce is getting crushed by scammers this week. First they fabricated a Bad Bunny quote and sent it to all corners of the internet, which forced him to put out a statement. Then a fake Facebook account made up a fake ICE quote and circulated it to 33,000 followers, who circulated it further:
Washington Commanders Roster Moves: WR to IR; Young DE signed; CB on the way back – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders announced several roster moves before the team hits the field for the first practice of Dallas week. They made the signing of DE Drake Jackson official, adding a former 2nd-round pick from the San Francisco 49ers. To make room for him on the 53-man roster, the Commanders have placed WR Noah Brown on injured reserve. He suffered a groin injury against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, and hasn’t played since. He was limited for the first two practices of last week, but didn’t practice on Saturday, and wasn’t active for Monday night’s home game against the Bears. Brown is now out for at least four more weeks as he deals with a groin injury that didn’t respond after returning to practice. Dan Quinn told reporters on Saturday that Brown and Terry McLaurin (quad) made good progress that week, but they just weren’t quite there yet. McLaurin hasn’t practiced since getting injured in Week 3, and has missed the last three games.
Washington QB Jayden Daniels next in line for big day vs. Cowboys’ defense – Blogging The Boys
Through the first six weeks of the 2025 NFL season the Dallas Cowboys have proven they are very much at the opposite end of the spectrum as far as their offense and defense is concerned. Offensively they are one of the best, but defensively they been absolutely atrocious. The Cowboys defense currently ranks dead last in the NFL in yards allowed at 412 per game and second to last in points allowed at 30.7 per game. This defense is without a doubt historically bad and have allowed opposing quarterbacks to have an absolute field day each and every week this year. Take last week for instance. QB Bryce Young is still trying to prove he’s a capable starter in the league and even he was able to throw for a three touchdowns to help upset the Cowboys and lead his team to victory. Entering a stretch of the season where they’ll be facing even better QBs, the future looks a little gloomy for Dallas’ defense.
2 trades the Giants should make proposed by ESPN – Big Blue View
Jakobi Meyers is not the best wide receiver potentially available (we have discussed options here and here). He is also in the final year of his contract, so the Giants would have to get a contract extension done with him first to make this move viable. Still, there are so many positives to this deal for New York. Provided, of course, they get Meyers to sign beyond this year. Rentals for the rest of the season don’t make sense for the Giants. The positives I see: Adding a much-needed playmaker for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Meyers is coming off a career-best 87-catch, 1,027-yard season. Prior to that, Meyers had three straight seasons of at least 800 yards receiving. He has a career catch percentage of 67.8% and a drop rate of just 2.7%, meaning he is reliable if not explosive. He provides a clear upgrade over anything the Giants currently have on the outside, and would be a nice complement to Malik Nabers after this season. Removing Banks. You don’t draft a guy in the first round hoping he will be a really good kickoff returner. Banks has become useless to the Giants on defense, playing just 11 snaps over the past two weeks. Cor’Dale Flott has won that cornerback job. If the Giants can package him for a quality wide receiver they can have beyond this season, that is a move they need to make. Improving their draft position. This move turns a 2026 fifth-round pick into a fourth-round pick. Theoretically, that improves the Giants’ chances of getting a good player. That’s always a net positive.
Who are the biggest fantasy football busts so far this season? – SB Nation
A.J. Brown, WR, Philadelphia Eagles. Oh buddy. The Eagles’ offense has been a hot mess and as a result, Brown has been arguably the biggest fantasy disappointment so far. Just 11 yards per reception on 25 catches is not the proper utilization of a multi-time All-Pro in his prime and by now, he’s made his frustrations with the passing game well know. We’re even starting to get trade rumors and while it would seem silly for the reigning Super Bowl champions to trade a player of his caliber, remember, that’s how they literally got him in the first place Managers who took him in the top 10 may have to subscribe to the sunk-cost fallacy and ride this out with Brown, but it’s just a frustrating situation all around.
