Mike McCarthy is back in the NFL.
It was reported on Saturday afternoon that the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to hire McCarthy to succeed Mike Tomlin. Incidentally McCarthy’s Green Bay Packers beat Tomlin’s
Steelers in Super Bowl LXV which took place in Cowboys Stadium, a building he would one day call home. One that is now officially a thing of the past.
McCarthy’s career has had a lot of weird tie-ins along those lines and another could be at play in the near future with Aaron Rodgers, his former quarterback in Green Bay, contemplating what he will do after just finishing a season playing in Pittsburgh. What’s more is that Mike will have now arguably served as head coach for the three most storied franchise in the NFL in the Packers, Cowboys, and Steelers. What a resumé!
The Cowboys visit the Packers in 2026 which will feature a matchup against an old friend in Micah Parsons; however, they do not play the Steelers. They came close to doing so as they drew the loser of the NFL’s regular season finale, the game where Pittsburgh beat the Baltimore Ravens.
It will be very interesting to say the least to see what McCarthy looks like in his first stop away from the Cowboys. As Nick Harris noted, we haven’t exactly gotten the chance to see a former Cowboys head coach lead another team all too often.
Good for Mike. All the best to him.
