It is not easy to break onto the scene as a young center-back, especially at Bayern Munich. However, Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet, 20, is starting to catch a lot of attention.
Jacquet is stepping up as a nailed-on starter for a club in contention for European places this season in Ligue 1, and there are more giants than just the German Rekordmeister
lurking around, according to a report from L’Équipe. As captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Bayern and Chelsea are the clubs showing the most interest in Rennes
centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (20). The French club’s idea is to keep the player until the end of the season and potentially drive the price up in the summer to the ranges they sold Désiré Doué (€60m) and Jérémy Doku (€66m) for [@lequipe]
Rennes has done marvelous work with developing young talent and flipping them for transfer profit in recent years. It was Rennes that Bayern purchased Mathys Tel from several summers ago, and though that did not work out in Bavaria, Tel netted solid return for Bayern on his exit and is now trying to make his mark for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The French connection is going strong, and Jacquet is just the profile Bayern might want in a center-back: young and ready to ease in slowly behind veteran starters.
That transfer fee, though…that would be a big bet.
