The Chicago Bears’ offseason training activities (OTAs) are in full swing and Head Coach, Ben Johnson, was tasked with speaking to the media at Halas Hall today to address some off the lingering storylines with his team. Among the most notable has been the success of the 2025 rookie class (at least on offense) and the expectations for players like Colston Loveland, Kyle Monangai, and Luther Burden III as they enter their sophomore seasons in the NFL. While there is much to be made of the potential
of the first two players on that list, the name that many have touted as a breakout candidate over the last few months is the former 2nd-round pick, Burden. From his comments today, it’s safe to count Johnson among those expecting big things from Luther Burden in year two:
If the Bears’ head coach is “buying Luther Burden stock right now”, then we may all be wise to follow suit. Johnson highlights the explosiveness that Burden has shown during the OTA practices so far this spring, while also noting that he’s working with coaches on improvements to his route tree. This all seemed to feed into a palpable excitement from the coach as he detailed the ways in which the young receiver has grown over the last year.
While it’s still only May, this level of excitement is still noteworthy, as not did Burden put up a solid rookie campaign, but there is now plenty of room to build upon what he established after the exit of DJ Moore. This is exactly why many are eager to Burden, Loveland, and Rome Odunze battle it out for top target status in the year ahead.
