One of the most glaring omissions from the German national team’s call-up list was VfB Stuttgart left-back Maximilian Mittelstädt.
It could be argued that Mittelstädt has been Germany’s most reliable defender
in recent call-up periods, but that did not help his case in the eyes of head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
“The door isn’t closed for Maxi. He knows that. He’s not having a bad season either. He’s had a bigger peak than the current one. Nevertheless, he’s been very solid, with few ups and downs. Things could be different next time,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
When asked how Mittelstädt reacted, Nagelsmann said the VfB Stuttgart defender was less than thrilled.
“He was sad. That’s normal and okay. We had a good conversation. Things are moving forward again,” Nagelsmann said.
