For the second time in his professional career, Alex Bregman was awarded a Gold Glove Award.
Bregman has continued to stack accomplishment after accomplishment to his resume, proving to be every bit worthy of being the #2 overall pick by the Houston Astros in 2015.
His first Gold Glove came in 2024, which was his 9th and final season with the Astros. After spending one season in Boston in 2025, the former
Tiger signed a five-year, $175 million contract with the Chicago Cubs. Along with the stellar defense, Bregman slashed .265/.355/.464 with 28 homeruns and 93 RBIs in his debut season in the Windy City.
Through his 11-year MLB career, Bregman is a two-time World Series champion (’17/‘22), a three-time All-Star (’18/‘19’25), along with a Silver Slugger award in 2019. Despite coming out of college as a shortstop, he has turned in to one of the best 3rd basemen in the Majors over the past decade. His career slash numbers are .271/.364/479 with 1,411 hits, 237 homeruns, and 818 RBIs.
The Albuquerque native started 196 games across 3 seasons as a Tiger. Every single one of them came at shortstop, making an impact as a freshman from the moment he stepped on to campus in Baton Rouge.
While fielding a .961 percentage across his 3 seasons, Bregman’s slash line was outstanding at .337/.409/.514. Oddly enough, his power came after leaving LSU. While he’s averaged 28 homers per year in the MLB, he never once hit double digits in a single season in college and finished with 21 total. Instead, he was a doubles machine with 56. His 38 steals in his junior season in 2015 are the second-most in a season all time for the program.
Just a few of his accolades as a Tiger include:
2015 Golden Spikes finalist
2015 First-Team All-American
2015 First-Team All-SEC
2015 SEC All-Defensive team
2013 and 2014 USA National Team
2013 National Freshman of the Year
2013 Brooks Wallace Award winner (nation’s best shortstop)
2013 First-Team All-American
