Good morning Gang Green Nation! Sometimes you read something and do a doubletake. Enzo Flojo’s article down below had that effect on me. He writes about two Jets in danger of being cut: Jeremy Ruckert and Bailey Zappe. Ruckert would be surprising, but that isn’t my issue.
Bailey Zappe certainly could find himself on the outside looking in. Cade Klubnik might beat him out for the QB2 role and the Jets could decide to carry only two quarterbacks. The Jets might also bring in another, better quarterback than
Zappe or Klubnik to take over as QB2. But those aren’t the scenarios Flojo writes about. I’ll let his article speak for itself here:
“Geno Smith is firmly established as the starter. Behind him sits the franchise’s long-term quarterback investment in Cade Klubnik. His development will understandably remain a priority throughout the season. There’s also Brady Cook. That leaves only one question. Can the Jets justify carrying a fourth quarterback?“
Yep, that’s right. Apparently Flojo believes Brady Cook of all people is a virtual lock for the Jets roster. While it’s theoretically possible Cook takes a big leap in his second year in the NFL, based on what we saw from him last year I’d say he’s probably not a lock. If Cook makes the roster it will be an upset. To assume he is automatically ahead of Zappe and Zappe only makes the team if the Jets carry four quarterbacks? Well, that earns points for originality, if nothing else.
