While the Nebraska basketball team rests up for another top 10 clash, this time against Illinois in the PBA, the weekly survey swung to softball, because their first pitch is just around the corner In
Texas, and 2026 football, because that particular sport is never too far from our minds is it?
Huskers softball is as loaded as they’ve looked in over a decade and perhaps ever?
Time will tell.
A 2025 team expected to be carried by Jordy Frahm’s (Bahl) arm instead broke one hitting record after another…also led by Bahl who hit .462 with 23 HR’s 66 RBI’s 10 steals and an otherworldly 1.533 OPS. They return almost all the starters from a team which finished 43-15 and finished within 1 run of defeating Tennessee for a spot in the Women’s College World Series. Did you think they will punch their ticket to Oklahoma City this year?
As for football, several true freshman sooner or later got their chances to make statements in 2025. Who do you think will make the leap in 2026? If you didn’t see the name for whom you were looking on the list (such as Mekhi Nelson – totally my bad 🤦🏼♂️), please add them in the comments below.
Here we go:
- Confidence is strong with these voters. Besides Frahm’s arm and bat, the Huskers return Ava Kuszak, Sammie Bland and 6-7 other regulars who combined to bash 107 HR’s while hitting .346 as a team last year. Unsung was the defense which started shaky but finished looking like the 70’s Baltimore Orioles.
- The huge need of a #2 starter may have been filled by Gretna freshman Alexis Jensen who will jump right in there in San Antonio.
- These facts may be the reason 69% see the Huskers returning to the WCWS for the first time since 2013.
- Only 31% combined don’t see them making it to the final showdown.
- It was battle at the top with Pietrzak, Mozee and Lateef all finishing within 5% of each other.
- Lateef started the last four games at QB, but finished with 26% likely because of the the addition of Anthony Colandrea in the portal after Lateef did not appear ready to take the reins with shaky appearances in the final three.
- Both Isaiah Mozee and Mekhi Nelson looked ready for prime time in the Vegas Bowl until Utah packed the box and the Huskers could not force them back with their shaky air game. Mozee finished with 29%.
- Instead it was North Dakota’s Kade Pietrzak topping the poll at 31% after impressing in his limited showings from 3rd string to finish 3rd on the team in Tackles for Loss and 2nd in Sacks.
- Whose says Husker fans don’t respect the guys in the trenches?
BONUS NATIONAL POLL
- And who says fans around the nation aren’t noticing the Huskers?
- 17% think they are the best in the country.
- And this poll opened the day of the Michigan game.
