The big rematch is finally here, and it’s as important as advertised.
The Seattle Seahawks (11-3) and Los Angeles Rams (11-3) are on a collision course to determine the NFC West winner (although the 10-4 San Francisco 49ers are by no means out of the picture). Whoever wins this has the inside track on the No. 1 seed in the NFC, while the loser faces the unenviable task of needing help to get back in the division race. It’d be more likely than not that whoever loses will have to win three road playoff
games to reach the Super Bowl, something that is not impossible but rarely accomplished for a reason.
Seattle lost 21-19 to the Rams in the first meeting back in Week 11, with Sam Darnold throwing four interceptions in a brutal performance. And yet, Jason Myers still had a chance to win the game from 61 yards out but missed short and wide right. It’s great that the Seahawks were that close despite a bad performance from Darnold, but a duplicate performance is absolutely not acceptable. We know this will be a different matchup than last month just off of personnel, as the Seahawks will have Julian Love and Jarran Reed on the defense, but won’t have left tackle Charles Cross. The Rams, meanwhile, will likely not have star receiver Davante Adams and may be without defensive lineman Braden Fiske.
Matthew Stafford is an MVP candidate who otherwise didn’t have his best game against the Seahawks. On an expected rainy, windy night at Lumen Field, he could make his own push to win that award for the first time in his career. The stingy Seahawks defense will look to continue their outstanding run of form and help vanquish Stafford for the first time since he became Rams QB in 2021.
I know you’re excited. And nervous. Either emotion is okay when you’ve got a game of this magnitude! And don’t forget it’s the unveiling of the new Rivalries uniforms!
