TCU football is moving closer to its 2026 season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 29. As the Countdown to Kickoff continues, we’ll highlight a former Horned Frog whose jersey number coincided with the number of days remaining until the opener. At No. 22 is former TCU running back Aaron Green!
Despite starting his collegiate career at Nebraska, Green burst onto the scene once he transferred to TCU. Green played an integral role in the team’s successful 2014 and 2015 seasons,
rushing for over 2,100 yards and 20 touchdowns over that time. In 2014, his junior season, Green led the Horned Frogs in rushing, going for 922 yards and nine touchdowns to earn All-Big 12 Second Team honors. In 2015, his senior season, Green rumbled for a career-best 1,272 yards and 11 touchdowns and was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.
One of Green’s greatest highlights was making a tipped catch in the endzone to help TCU hold off Texas Tech 55-52 in Lubbock during the 2015 season. Green, who averaged a career-best 7.1 yards per carry in 2014 and ended his career with a 5.4 yards per carry average, signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He played in two games for the Rams before continuing his career with the Dallas Cowboys (2017), Buffalo Bills (2017-18) and the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football (AAF).
Now on the coaching staff at TCU, Green serves as the assistant running backs coach, a role he started in January 2026. Green previously worked as the program’s assistant director of player personnel. In three seasons at TCU, Green rushed for 2,426 yards and finished his career seventh on the program’s all-time rushing rankings.
