Manchester United are reportedly considering a deal for Newcastle United and England full-back Lewis Hall. Samuel Luckhurst among others reported on the matter this week amid a turbulent period for Newcastle United, but there has been no official movement on that front. It would likely be a pricey deal for a good, young player at a position of need, but not quite top of the priority list.
Hall is a promising young player, having earned four England caps and nailed down a starting role at Newcastle
before turning 21. He, like many others at the club, had a frustrating 25/26 campaign, and it contributed to his absence from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad going into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Hall thrived for the Magpies since arriving in 2023 from Chelsea, first on loan and then on a permanent deal in 2024. He already has 102 appearances for the club and is a player they would hate to lose.
However, the recent turmoil at the Tyneside outfit may have opened the possibility to his move.
On Thursday, it was reported by David Ornstein that Eddie Howe would be leaving Newcastle after five seasons at the club. Howe, who shares an agent with Lewis Hall, is likely to be replaced by Matthias Jaissle, currently manager of Al Ahli.
In a period of dramatic change, Newcastle has already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali after the sale of Alexander Isak a year ago. There is also a heavy link between Arsenal and Bruno Guimaraes.
The turnover in the squad may prompt Newcastle to try and hold onto young players like Hall, but it may also be a full embrace to raise funds and rebuild the team how Jaissle, or whoever the new manager is, wants it to be.
The need is there at United, where the search for a long-term Luke Shaw replacement has yielded no great options so far. The squad features just Harry Amass as a natural left-back behind Shaw at the moment, with Patrick Dorgu seemingly moving forward to an advanced winger role. Shaw himself is still playing at a high level and completed a healthy campaign in 25/26, but is noticeably lacking the same speed and endurance that made him a dangerous overlapping wingback for club and country.
Hall would fit the bill, if United can afford the bill. Or perhaps rather, if United is willing to afford the bill.
