The Cleveland Guardians chose to protect four prospects from the Rule 5 draft today and designated Nic Enright for assignment.
These were the four moves we predicted yesterday, as the Guardians chose to
protect:
-Their top shortstop prospect in the switch-hitting, 21-year old Angel Genao.
-A 22 year-old shortstop to centerfield convert who showed flashes of brilliance at Akron and Columbus in 2025 in the left-handed hitting Kahlil Watson.
-A control artist with fifth starter potential in 26 year-old Austin Peterson.
-A breakout performer in 2025 who has a mid-to-upper 90’s fastball in 23 year-old, right-hander Yorman Gomez. Now, Gomez is only 5 foot 11 inches, so chances are he will be a reliever, but is tracking to be a good one.
Enright will hopefully be re-signed on a minor-league deal and given team resources to spend 2026 recovering from his Tommy John surgery and, most importantly, hopefully being cancer-free! His was a special story in 2025 and one we all won’t soon forget. Wishing him all the best and hoping to see him in a Guardians uniform in 2027.
